All students who are eligible for and elect to receive education and training benefits while attending Monroe County Community College may address inquiries for information to the college’s Financial Aid Office.
VA Educational Benefit Eligibility Application Process
The Department of Veterans Affairs administers a variety of education benefit programs. Many veterans and active duty personnel can qualify for more than one education benefits program.

A student whose Monroe County Community College cumulative GPA drops below 1.800 may be certified for a maximum of two additional semesters. If, after these two semesters, he or she does not raise the cumulative GPA to a 1.800, no additional certifications will be submitted on behalf of the veteran, and the Veterans Administration will be notified that the student is on VA probation. Should the veteran raise his or her cumulative GPA to a 1.800 in subsequent semesters, the college can retroactively certify the veteran for one full year.
Credit for military service experience may occur in two forms. Use of this credit is based on its appropriateness to the student’s program at Monroe County Community College.
A student presenting the Registrar’s Office with a DD-214 form showing a minimum of one year of service with the character of discharge being either “honorable” or “general under honorable conditions” will be awarded two semester hours of general elective credit.
Service personnel, having successfully completed certain approved training courses, may be awarded a limited amount of academic credit once proof of this training has been provided to the Registrar’s Office. MCCC follows the American Council on Education Guide to the evaluation of educational experience in the armed services
Per MCCC Policy 3.05, as of Fall Semester 2019, any individual using educational assistance under either Chapter 30 (Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty Program), Chapter 31 (Vocational Rehabilitation), Chapter 33 (Post-9/11 GI Bill),Chapter 35 (Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program) and Chapter 1606 ofTitle 10 U.S.C. (Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve), of Title 38, United States Code, and/or the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (38 U.S.C. §3311(b)(9)), who lives in the State of Michigan while attending Monroe County Community College (regardless of his/her formal state of residence) shall be charged no more than in-county tuition.
Military Tuition Assistance
Students who are eligible for Military Tuition Assistance through any of the programs listed below should contact the Financial Aid Office for assistance.
Members of the Selective Reserves and National Guard may be eligible for Federal Tuition Assistance. Each service (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard) has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process, and restrictions. See your respective military branch FTA website for detailed guidelines and responsibilities.
FTA student responsibilities: FTA recipients should first contact their respective education service officer to seek approval for funding before registering for classes at MCCC.
Payment: Students must submit their authorization voucher for FTA to the Financial Aid Office at MCCC. This voucher must be turned in before the tuition payment due date for the semester; otherwise, students will be at risk for being dropped from classes for non-payment.
If students receive other tuition and fees specific benefits, such as GI Bill or financial aid awards, the FTA plan or other resources may be reduced. Fees, books and supplies are not covered by FTA, as this is a tuition-only program. If you need assistance with your account, please contact your unit’s education service officer or the MCCC Financial Aid Office.
The Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Programis available to members of the Michigan National Guard who are active in the National Guard, are not absent without leave or under UCMJ charges and meet the additional criteria established by the TAG consistent with Michigan National Guard’s recruiting and retention requirements.

The Military Spouse Career Advancement Account Scholarship is a workforce development program that provides tuition assistance to eligible military spouses. The scholarship helps military spouses pursue licenses, certificates, certifications or associate degrees necessary to gain employment in high-demand, high-growth portable career fields and occupations.
Payment: Students must verify that their authorization has been sent to the Financial Aid Office at MCCC prior to the tuition payment due date for the semester; otherwise, students will be at risk for being dropped from classes for non-payment.
Even though military tuition assistance benefits are applied as a payment to a student’s account at the start of each semester, the student earns their benefits by completing their courses in the semester. If a student withdraws during his or her period of enrollment, the amount of military tuition assistance benefits the student has earned up to that point is determined by a specific schedule. The following schedule shows the percentage of benefits earned when a student withdraws from classes.
MCCC's Fall and Winter semesters are 15 weeks in length. The schedule for percentage of aid earned for the Fall and Winter semesters is as follows:
Week 1: This is MCCC's 100% tuition refund period once classes have started. MCCC will return 100% of military tuition assistance funds to the provider for students who withdraw before or during the first week of classes. During weeks 2-4: 75% return
During weeks 5-8: 50% return
During weeks 9: 40% return (60% of course is completed)
During weeks 10-15: 0% return
MCCC's Summer semester is 12 weeks in length. The schedule for percentage of aid earned for the Summer semester is as follows:

Veteran Student Checklist
Please request any official high school transcripts, official college transcripts, official military transcripts and ACT/SAT scores to be submitted to the Admissions Office.
These items need to be completed on campus. If you have special needs or a disability, call the Learning Assistance Lab (734) 384-4167 to set up an appointment with a special needs counselor.
Complete Course Placement
MCCC requires that new students complete the Accuplacer Exam or have appropriate scores on the ACT/SAT. The Accuplacer exam identifies current skill levels in math, English and Reading and could impact which courses in which you may enroll. Please visit the Testing Center on the Main Campus, which is located in the La-Z-Boy Center. Call (734) 384-4255 for a schedule of testing times. Testing is also available at the Whitman Center in Temperance in Room 1. Call (734) 847-0559.
Meet with a counselor and register for classes
All new students are required to meet with a counselor in the Admissions and Guidance Office in Room A101 to review placement and/or ACT or SAT scores and discuss course selections. Call (734) 384-4104 for an appointment. Registration periods are as follows: Fall Semester – April through start of classes; Winter Semester – November through start of classes; Spring/Summer Semester –March through start of classes.
Tuition must be paid by the payment due date or at the time of course registration. MCCC offers a variety of payment options:
- Pay online through your myWebPAL Student Registration and Planning Account (You’ll set this up when you meet with your counselor.)
- Pay in person at the Cashier’s Office in Building A.
- Sign up for our convenient Tuition Payment Plan through your myWebPAL account.
Remember, your reserved seat in a class will be dropped if you don’t make a payment by the due date. See Important Dates below.
All of your books and supplies are available through the MCCC Bookstore. Students are able to purchase or rent their books at the bookstore or online. The MCCC Bookstore is located in room A141 on Main Campus. Bring your class schedule from your myWebPAL account with you, and you’ll be ready to go.
